Our accommodation is situated just a short walk (1km) from the village centre of Arrowtown. It will take about 10 minutes to walk in or 3 minutes to drive. there is plenty of free parking all around Arrowtown and lots to do and see in the village centre. We are only a 20 minute drive from action-packed Queenstown so Arrowtown is a great place to base yourself (especially if you prefer being away from the hustle and bustle and traffic of Queenstown). Arrowtown has no taxi service - however we can order a taxi for you but expect to pay around NZ $75 for the fare to get you to the airport or Queenstown central. There is a bus service from Arrowtown via Frankton to Queenstown which operates daily to a set timetable see http://www.connectabus.com/ for more info.
Formerly a gold-mining town, Arrowtown is built on the banks of the Arrow River and boasts a rich history. It is now a sophisticated village with 2 streets of fabulous tourist shops, award-winning restaurants, museum, cafes, pubs, boutique cinema, galleries and visitor information centre. The population of Arrowtown is a mere 2600 people, a tight-knit community all passionate about living in this beautiful area. Most of us enjoy the great outdoors, hiking, biking, skiing, golfing and drinking wine!
Arrowtown is recognised as the walking and biking centre of the Wakatipu and most of the trails and cycle tracks of the area either start or finish in or nearby the town. We have a few maps for various trails but a more comprehensive range is available from the Information Centre inside the Arrowtown Museum. If golf is your game, Arrowtown is surrounded by several world-class golf courses to pick from.
With vibrant Queenstown just 20 minutes drive away, and the Queenstown International airport only 15 minutes, Arrowtown is ideally located as a tranquil alternative. It is also within easy commuting distance from NZ’s top ski fields namely Coronet Peak, The Remarkables, Cardrona, The Snow Farm and Treble Cone, as well as a scenic 50 minute drive over the spectacular Crown Range to Lake Wanaka or about the same driving time to Cromwell via the beautiful winery area of Gibbston Valley and Bannockburn.
From early morning hot air balloon excursions to overnight 4-wheel drive campouts in nearby Macetown, wine-tasting tours through the Gibbston Valley or simply indulging in a relaxing spa, there’s something for everyone in Arrowtown. Ask us and we’ll hopefully be able to set you in the right direction.
