Historic Arrowtown 

Only 20 minutes drive from Queenstown is the quaint village of Arrowtown, steeped in gold-mining history.

Arrowtown Gold Rush 


The gold rush peaked in 1862-63 with around 1500 pioneering prospectors painstakingly worked the Arrow River. 


Later, Chinese prospectors searched for gold.  Today visitors can explore the cramped houses they lived in at the historic miners' village - Arrowtown Chinese Settlement. 

Arrowtown has retained 70 historic buildings and features from those gold rush days. 

The Lakes District Museum and Gallery is packed with fascinating information about the history of Arrowtown and is well worth a visit during your stay.

Skiing and Snowboarding


Queenstown in the wintertime is synonymous with skiing and snowboarding.  From late June through until September the mountains come alive with keen skiers and snowboarders tackling the slopes. 

Staying at Arrowtown Motel and Apartments or our Arrowtown Holiday Rental means you can access any of the nearby ski areas easily. 

The closest ski area is Coronet Peak, learn to ski or explore the epic terrain off-piste.   Basing yourself in Arrowtown opens up other possibilities for exploring the slopes at Cardrona Alpine Resort, Treble Cone or The Remarkables.    For a truly awesome winter ski experience heli-skiing is a must-do. 

Trail Biking and Mountain Biking


The terrain surrounding Arrowtown is a haven for trail bikers and mountain bikers. 

Explore over 130kms of trails, many of which pass through Arrowtown and incorporate Gibbston Valley, Lake Hayes, Frankton, Kelvin Peninsula, and Jack's Point.  You'll be inspired by the alpine vistas, nuggets of history, sparkling lakes and rivers and much more. 

Gnarly downhill tracks and jump parks are on offer in the region surrounding Arrowtown.    The Queenstown Bike Park features over 30 trails within the treescape under Skyline Skyrides.  The views from Coronet Peak are incredible or explore the 600 metres of trails at Cardrona.
